Maundy Thursday

Many families love sharing stories at mealtime.  By contrast, it’s not often that the meal tells a story to the family!  But that’s exactly what happens with the Seder Supper meal.  This special dinner has been celebrated in the Jewish religion for thousands of years as a way of retelling the story of God’s deliverance at Passover.  The bitter herbs, unleavened bread, sprigs of parsley, nutty fruit sauce – each part of the meal tells another part of the story.  And then when celebrating the Seder with His disciples in the Upper Room, Jesus showed that He is rest of the story, its perfect fulfillment!

On Maundy Thursday, March 28th this year, we will once again offer a Christian Seder as a runup to the worship service that night, rejoicing that everything in the Seder story is fulfilled in Christ our Passover lamb!  You are encouraged to bring a kosher dish to share (no shellfish, pork product, or combinations of dairy with meat).   We’ll walk briskly through an abbreviated version of the Seder starting at 5:30pm with explanations throughout, then enjoy the food, and finally the real Supper in the 7:00pm worship (expect to conclude about 7:45 with the Stripping of the Altar).

PS – Following the simple kosher rules mentioned above will be just fine, but if you’re interested you can find hundreds of kosher recipes online at websites like https://www.allrecipes.com/recipes/15957/everyday-cooking/kosher/.  Your favorite grocery store will also have a few easy-to-prepare items in the cultural foods section.
